Civil Society & Inclusive Governance
People in Need Philippines is dedicated to promoting inclusive, transparent, and accountable governance and development processes in the Philippines, with a strong emphasis on addressing the needs of its citizens. Our mission is to empower civil society to actively participate in social, economic, and democratic development. We specifically target small and emerging local Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and networks, enabling them to effectively engage in and monitor public decision-making processes. We strongly advocate for citizens’ awareness and exercise of their rights.
PIN Philippines places a special focus on marginalized groups within society, such as women, indigenous people, and youth groups. We firmly believe that these groups have the inherent right to employment, political awareness, and the ability to critically address the issues affecting their communities. Our goal is to provide them with the knowledge and tools necessary to empower themselves and effectively convey their concerns to the relevant authorities.
Ongoing Activities
Strengthening Capacities of Civil Society in Caraga and BARMM for Good Governance
The core objective of this project is to work closely with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and CSO Networks operating in Caraga and BARMM. Its primary focus is on enhancing their role in public decision-making, not only at the local level but also at the regional and national levels. This is to be achieved through a multifaceted approach that includes providing tailored technical assistance, fostering joint initiatives with Local Government Units (LGUs), and granting access to essential financial resources.
The project involves 30 local community CSOs and 4 CSO networks working in the poorest and most marginalized communities in the BARMM and Caraga regions. It also involves 30 LGUs at the barangay and municipal levels. The needs and constraints of the target groups will be addressed through various interventions, including participation in the "CSOs 4 Development" Program, tailored capacity building based on identified needs, mentorship for promising leaders, support during the accreditation process, joint CSOs' sector-based advocacy training, and networking events.
Funded by the European Union, this project is implemented by a consortium led by PIN Philippines together with Balay Mindanaw Foundation Inc. and the Maranao People Development Center Inc.
